INDENICA

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

The aim of service-centric computing is to provide a globally integrated environment in which a large number of loosely coupled services can cooperate and form a service ecosystem. Already today, this has led to a plethora of service platforms that are available for use by applications. This high degree of heterogeneity is necessary as such service platforms have to fulfill completely different functional and non-functional requirements. Nevertheless, this heterogeneity results in the following fragmentation of service platforms in terms of Quality of Service, interface design and technological basis.

All three forms of fragmentation are today major stumbling blocks for the successful development of service-based applications and hinder the emergence of a full service ecosystem.

In this context, the INDENICA project aims to develop virtual, domain-specific platforms which will be fully open and interoperable. The project will provide methods, architectures, components, tools and assets for reuse-based creation of the adapted platforms. Effectively, INDENICA will research on a product line for the development of domain-specific platforms that are interoperable by design. Members of the product line (i.e., platforms) can be modified after deployment, thus providing capabilities to make decisions at runtime that are currently made in the design process.

_____________________________________________________________________

SOLUTIONS

  • Simplifying the overall complexity of service platform development caused by the mentioned fragmentation.
  • Providing methods, architectures and tools that support the development of context and domain-specific platforms along with the services.
  • Supporting platform convergence and interoperability to avoid the increased dependency on external service and platform vendors.
  • Fostering a common basis for families of platforms which integrate system management and interoperability capabilities right from the start.
  • Producing a reusable infrastructure for platform development and support the automatic deployment and the monitoring, governance, and adaptation of services in a Virtual Service Platform.

MITER

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

From the viewpoint of software engineering, ensuring confidence in implemented security mechanisms is a key objective. As such, it is vital that the IT industry constantly improve the design and implementation process of software security.

In this context, the MITER project aims to devise a security model which will accurately identify security concerns, present these concerns from a business perspective and test itself against agreed security requirements. These three aims will converge in an integrated, model-driven security process which can be embedded within a standard business model making security concerns heuristically identifiable and removable.

_____________________________________________________________________

SOLUTIONS

  • Proposing a portfolio of well-defined security models, classified in terms of their structural and behavioural aspects, without considering a specific target business model
  • Automatically composing a subset of selected security models, specified according to the target business model, to obtain a new business model augmented according to the security specifications
  • Heuristically validating and verifying the developed security model before final implementation

Sense Smart City

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

The aim of this project is to turn the small, northern municipality of Skellefteå into a Smart City – an urban space interconnected through sensor networks which manage the collection, measurement and communication of data and the allocation of resources. The end result will be the provision of more efficient, comprehensive and energy-aware services to Skellefteå’s citizens.

The project supports the collaboration of local SMEs with municipal authorities in researching innovative mobile systems technology and developing SmartCity products and services at the local university.

A platform will also be developed by the project team to manage collected sensor data and security, which will enhance existing Smart services and enable the provision of new ones.

_____________________________________________________________________

SOLUTIONS

  • Designing a new product which measures sewage flow so as to detect and report leaks and overflows.
  • Collaborating with local SME’s on other Smart prototypes.
  • Constructing a “Sense Smart City platform” to store collected sensor data and security in the cloud and host new applications utilising the gathered data.

FInest

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

Future Internet (FI) technology offers unique opportunities for the transport and logistics industry to address pressing challenges associated with international freight transport, including business efficiency, competitiveness and environmental sustainability.

To address those challenges, FInest (an EU FP7 Future Internet PPP use case project) leverages FI technology to the benefit of all transport and logistics partners. It offers novel Web 2.0 business-to-business collaboration facilities which seamlessly link third-party and legacy applications to create customized solutions, allowing for the “on demand” management of shipments and supply chains. Through software prototypes, FInest aims to contribute to the development of a rich service ecosystem whose value also extends to other domains such as smart cities and agriculture.

_____________________________________________________________________

SOLUTIONS

  • Designing a future-Internet-enabled, standardised business-to-business collaboration platform, which builds on generic FI enablers
  • Developing four core transport and logistics services offered through open-source APIs : (1) collaboration services, (2) semi-automated e-contracting services, (3) intelligent and proactive “sense and respond” event management services, (4) real-time planning and re-planning services.
  • Running large-scale trials of the FInest solutions in Europe’s leading edge experimental facilities

Mindenki

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

The Mindinki project aims to develop a Relevancy Network based on web 3.0 semantic technology which will allow internet users to develop a digital personality which can connect them to person-specific content. The Relevancy Network is an organic system, permanently moulded by its end-users, in which knowledge, gained from interaction is communicated in a manner analogous to the human nervous system. End-users will not have to search out content. Content will, instead, search out them.

_____________________________________________________________________

SOLUTIONS

  • Providing universal open access to person-specific content
  • Creating a significance based cross-reference network between contents by means of user-content interaction
  • Connecting Long Tail, user-specific content within an integrated cross-reference system.
