The winners of the inaugural Future Internet Award have been announced. Joan Batlle Montserrat, a Member of the Judging Panel, presented two Awards at the FIA Ghent closing ceremony on December 17th.

The first Award was presented to the project which provides an exemplar for innovate products/services. The winner of this Award was the Panlab project.

Panlab provides a large-scale experimental facility offering heterogeneous testbed resources to address the need of large-scale testing and experimentation. The facility comprises various testbeds forming a testbed federation among regional innovation clusters.

According to the Judging Panel, Panlab was “innovate and exemplar” and would have a “high impact”. Click here to see Panlab’s presentation.

Second Award – “will unlock possibilities for citizens and governments”

The second Award went to the project which demonstrated the greatest potential to advance the Future Internet. The winner of this Award was StratAG.

StratAG uses 3DQ (Three Dimensional Query)–a novel mobile spatial interaction prototype–for data mining and analysing today’s location- and orientation-aware “smartphones” within 3D sensor web environments.

The Judging Panel said StratAG “will unlock possibilities for citizens and governments” and that “application areas can be easily found”. Click here to see StratAG’s presentation.
