SUMMARY
The main objective of the project is the creation of new innovative technology solutions to support healthcare systems of the next generation. In the near future, genomic medicine will be fully integrated in the care of patients and genomic data will be part of the medical information of each of us. If this scenario impacts positively on our lives (eg., Diagnosis genomic allow to treat individuals according to personalized therapies), at the same time several issues are raised which need to be addressed such as the way in which genomic data are modeled and queried, or the need to protect the privacy of sensitive information. In this project, the research team will focus on aspects of security and privacy, the key factors for successful integration of genomics in healthcare systems. How do we ensure that our sensitive genomic data are adequately protected? How to ensure that the privacy of individuals who participate in medical studies to be preserved? How to assure that only authorized parties to access genomic data? UNIMI will answer these and other questions by developing innovative solutions that address the issues of security and privacy related to the storage, collection, dissemination and use of genomic data.

SOLUTIONS
- Designing the data model GenData 2020 given the diversity of genomic data and providing a high-level language for the selective extraction of data.
- Collaborating in the definition of the data model to ensure that includes the features needed for the specification and implementation of security controls and privacy.
- Developing a formal and rigorous semantics for (part of) the conceptual model and define an executable formal semantics for the query language.
- Identifying the properties that must be met by cryptographic solutions used for data and applications.
- Developing an expressive and flexible model, a language and a mechanism for controlling access to the specification and implementation of permissions that govern access to genomic data.
