TraPIST

SUMMARY

Real-time travel information for rail travelers is still used inefficiently today and is rarely combined with other data sources. It is up to the rail travelers themselves to look actively for important information about their trip. The TraPIST project team believes that in a dynamic context such as that of public transport, it would be much simpler to be able to consult the right information at the right time.

The current generation of applications based on real-time train information (RTTI) is still not fully using (open) data to facilitate rail travel. They are often based on only one source, even though more relevant sources are available (e.g. vehicle sensor data, passenger data, weather forecast, etc.). Moreover, travelers today expect additional ‘layers’ of information, such as integration with social media or entertainment.

The TraPIST project seeks to offer train travelers relevant information at the right time and through the most appropriate channel.

SOLUTIONS

  • Developing applications for smart devices and public displays which collects, analyzes, classifies and filters data from various sources, based on a dynamic traveler profile. These applications can be practical, offering travel-related information, as well as social information or entertainment
  • Tailoring the information to specific circumstances, contexts, and user preferences
