Mobile Hybrid Tracking in Large and Changing Interior Spaces

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

The goal of this project is to develop a hybrid indoor tracking system for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The system will be specifically designed for complex interior spaces – like airports, hospitals and shopping malls – whose appearance and layout may change due to seasonal variation, new constructions, refurbishments, renovations etc. Taking advantage of the existing sensory photographic technology already built into smart phones, the project will develop a robust indoor navigation system which can interactively guide the user within an unknown terrain, thereby solving complex tasks more efficiently.

SOLUTIONS

  • Developing a robust indoor navigation system which can interactively guide the user within complex interior spaces such as airports, hospitals and shopping malls, thereby solving complex tasks more efficiently.
  • Combining multiple optical tracking technologies by taking advantage of the available sensors already built into standard smartphones, like the inertial sensor and high resolution RGB camera.
