SUMMARY
Consumers expect graphic representations of products to conform to the products actual physical appearance. Achieving photo-realism and visual accuracy in graphical representations is easily accomplished by large firms such as automobile companies who have the equipment necessary to take accurate measurements and visual representations of the product, but it is more difficult for smaller design studios and 3D modelers who cannot afford the complex hardware to accomplish this.
Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution (BRDF) is a technique used to, by means of a gonioreflectometer, detect and represent the surfaces of real objects, by measuring the various angles of incidence. This project aims to create a visual platform for mobile devices which can, through BRDF techniques, capture and reconstruct the materials, geometry, and lighting of the real scene.
