SUMMARY
The continuing rapid growth in the volume of data generated by multiple, heterogeneous sources has created the need for increasingly efficient methods of processing and acquiring information. Data must be structured and stored in the right way; it must be possible to efficiently search through the data and analyse it to extract information which would not otherwise be obtained without sophisticated methods and algorithms.
This project uses methods drawn from biological processes to process large amounts of weakly structured data. Methods gleaned from the study of natural phenomena allow processes and theoretical models to be utilised in the develop computational systems and algorithms capable of solving complex problems that cannot be solved (without difficulties) by traditional techniques.

SOLUTIONS
- Developing biomedical applications for the measurement of large-volume data, such as signal processing with a primary emphasis on signals of biological origins, and the modelling and verification of complex processes when planning radio-therapy
- Designing intelligent networks (Smart Grids) which will allow sustainable development through resource optimisation and active management of energy flows in smart grids with emphasis on increasing the positive impact on the environment and social level of the population
- Developing the technology for massively parallel computing on various technological platforms
