Distributed Optimisation of Optical Access Networks

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

The aim of this project is to design and implement efficient algorithms for the optimisation of optical communications access networks. Such optimisation should enable a significant reduction in the cost of investment in telecommunications infrastructure, and support the introduction of universal broadband access to ICT services. These algorithms will be made available in the form of an executable program running on a generic network model. End users should thus find it easy to implement the project outputs.

SOLUTIONS

  • Developing an innovative optimisation module for designing optical access networks.
  • Optimising FTTx network topologies
  • Providing basic statistical indicators (such as the total cost for given level of demand) which would be of value to commercial end users.
