SUMMARY

Irish funding agencies and government research programmes have made Data Analytics a priority area. CeADAR (the Centre for Applied Data Analytics Research) was established to enable research in the field of Applied Data Analytics and is supported by industry partners of commercial interest to specific sectors. CeADAR is an industry-led technology centre initiative for innovation and applied research in the area of Data Analytics. The centre seeks to accelerate the development, deployment and adoption of Data Analytics technology and relevant innovations. CeADAR is led by UCD with partners UCC and DIT; the academic partners work closely with Irish based companies to make the centre an internationally renowned hub for data analytics research.

CeADAR is developing a world-class creative environment that will foster innovation and support the development of a team of highly innovative technology professionals. CeADAR aims to deliver on a research agenda defined by a consortium of SMEs and MNCs operating in Ireland. Research will be carried out within the broad boundaries of three distinct themes: Intelligent Analytic Interfaces; Data Management for Analytics; Advanced Analytics.

SOLUTIONS

  • Developing tools, techniques and technologies that enable more people, organisations and industries to use analytics for better decision making.
  • Transferring of research outputs to industry.
  • Designing prototypes and demonstrators, and producing white papers summarising the development of data analytics tools and technologies and of best-practice methodologies and processes.
  • Working to establish an international reputation and to develop relationships with international research centres (both academic and industry).
  • Intelligent Analytics:
  • Assisting users in achieving the insights they require through intelligent analytic user interfaces and to encourage inquisitiveness .SmartSeg, a customer segmentation tool is being developed.Developing methodologies and techniques for modelling and incentivising specific user behaviours in complex scenarios using techniques from game theoretic mechanism design and investigating the effect of different communication options. NudgeAlong, a tool which changes user behaviour, is being developed under this subtheme.
    • Presenting the right results in the right medium at the right time to achieve a desired result which includes a level of personalisation of outputs for the end users and optimal learning of what a user needs based on their activity to date. Passive Analytics, a customer contact tool is being developed under this subtheme.
  • Data Management:
    • Addressing the resource intensive activity involved in preparing data for analytics (as opposed to operational) purposes. AI for business process modeling is being developed under this subtheme.
    • Minimising the possible downstream effects on error prone results from bad data.  The Querying With Confidence tool is being developed under this subtheme.
  • Advanced Analytics:
    • Creating techniques, tools, and methods to identify trending scenarios in social networks within a defined/relevant context and linking it to internal data. The Social media entity monitoring tool is being developed under this subtheme.
    • Developing methodologies, processes, technologies, tools, and algorithms to analyse continuous streams of data using complex analytic algorithms to report the most accurate and timely results. The Continuous Clustering and Forecast Technology Platform tools are being developed under this subtheme.
