SUMMARY
Energy & IT is a research group at the Institute of Computer Technology at the University of Technology Vienna. The group’s research is focused in two domains: power engineering and information technology (IT); and on forging synergies through global collaboration in both areas.
Climate change, rising energy demand, and the use of IT are all contemporary developments which are causing a fundamental change in the extent and nature of electrical energy usage. IT can be used within the energy system through sensory data acquisition,database compiling, electrical energy services, and globally distributed control mechanisms. It is the aim of Energy & IT to make contributions in this regard.

SOLUTIONS
- Developing interfaces for internet of things –enabled vehicles in the Smart Grid
- Integrating low-emission vehicles with the electric distribution grid
- Identifying and implementing synergies through the use of ICT infrastructure for multiple applications, thereby effectively lowering the infrastructure’s unit cost
