SUMMARY

The Wireless Networks group at INESC TEC focuses on R&D in the area of wireless communications networks.

The group’s mission is to further the development of self-manageable, scalable, secure, and context-aware wireless networks. The groups focuses its research in several important areas such as: network self-configuration, cross-layer optimisation, congestion control, radio resource management, mobility management, network management and network security

SOLUTIONS

  • Characterising the impact of network topology on the performance of single-radio wireless mesh networks
  • Designing an ns-3 architecture for simulating joint radio resource management strategies in interconnected WLAN and UMTS networks
  • Investigating the performance and limits of KNN-based positioning methods for GSM networks over leaky feeder in underground tunnels
  • Developing methods for the transparent and scalable terminal mobility for vehicular networks
  • Producing an efficient mechanism for establishing IP connectivity in Next Generation Networks
