SUMMARY
The aim of this project is to enable next-generation web services within the expanding internet space of social networking. Specifically, as social networking is is driven by User-Generated Content (UGC), the project team wishes to develop a semantic parsing technology which will allow IT systems to ‘make sense’ of the human language-based UGC. The project will design solutions to challenges arising in implementing large-scale semantic parsing technology.

SOLUTIONS
- Developing a large-scale semantic parsing technology which can convert the human language of UGC into formal representations of meaning
- Overcoming the challenges of scalability, robustness and precision which are inhibiting the development of large-scale semantic parsing technology
- Defining adequate, application-independent, output representations for semantic parsing – ie: developing a linguistic Application Programming Interface (API)
- Showcasing project results through a novel web service consisting of a search interface based on semantic relations between concepts applied to a large selection of diverse Web content from the domain of information technology
