SUMMARY
SOWN (the Southampton Open Wireless Network) is a project which aims to build a free-to-use, wireless network in the city of Southampton. The project is part of of the Southampton University Wireless Society (SUWS) which is also an Amateur Radio club.
The project’s initial focus has been on providing coverage to the University campus and Portswood / Highfield areas since those locations are in closest proximity to where the team works and lives. Nevertheless, the project team welcomes proposals to join the initiative and to set up additional coverage in other areas.
