SUMMARY
Energy-use in buildings can be minimised by using modern technology with situation-aware devices that are able to communicate. The SOWICI project aims to develop a novel, energy-efficient, in-building optical/wireless communication network. This network will feature intelligent routing and transmission functionalities for wireless services between sensors and actuators and fixed and mobile wireless broadband communication devices. The network will enable building automation and communication for saving energy

SOLUTIONS
-
Producing an energy-efficient, in-building, optical/wireless communication network
-
Integrating the communication networks for building automation with the communication networks used for data exchange and multimedia entertainment
-
Developing and integrated communication network which is reliable, flexible, scalable and which consumes minimal power
-
Ensuring that wireless communication between system components should work reliably with a minimum of electro-magnetic emission for energy-efficiency and to eliminate potential health hazards due to exposure to EM radiation
