Coordinating European Future Internet Research

SmartGrid

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

SmartGrids entail the renovation of existing power systems on the basis of Internet of Things technology so as to introduce real-time, autonomous decision-making based on a data exchange infrastructure. However, the growing mass of data which needs to be collected, analysed simultaneously within strict time constraints is creating a challenge for future SmartGrid innovators.

This project propose to provide solutions to some of the major operation problems of distribution networks, such as voltage and power flow controls, so as to relieve the information-processing burden and enhance system security. The project team aims to create a new environment for the optimised and secure management of electricity distribution using dedicated, mixed-mode, microelectronic Integrated Circuits and a real-time Information and Communication Technology layer.

SOLUTIONS

  • Evaluating different power-use optimisation scenarios instantaneously through IC technology so as to allow SmartGrid’s to rapidly identify and execute optimal power distribution in real-time
  • Addressing the growing needs for flexibility in green energy oriented grids
