SUMMARY
The Smart City project aims to create a dynamic ecosystem in which administrators, companies, citizens and research institutions jointly produce comprehensive, innovative and impactful services. The project seeks to assist the various interest groups to arrive at optimum, ICT-integrated solutions to the problems arising from city life through balancing collective and individual interests. The smart use of Big Data will enable the development of tangible solutions from a systematic overview. The project comprises a number of varied, multi-disciplinary sub-projects within the domain of research

SOLUTIONS

Producing an model for strategic urban planning:
- Designing a calculation model for interactive planning which comprises of leading-edge software and TNO expertise
- Composing realistic simulations using precise data such as up-to-date digital maps, traffic flows and demographic data
- Calculating the affect of modifying a variable such as the width of a road on a whole list of different criteria such as traffic intensity, air quality, noise pollution and external security

Developing a psychological model that describes the factors that influence self-reliance amongst citizens:
- Identifying a range of interventions which can boost self-reliance through altering individual and social factors
- Pilot-testing prototype solutions

Enabling municipal authorities to manipulate and exploit Big Data generated by social media
- Localising Twitter messages on a large scale, collecting and collating the most reliable and useful messages
- Investigating the power of online social influence from micro, macro and reflective perspectives
