SUMMARY

The distributed nature of the Internet leads to difficulties in identifying the root causes of performance and availability issues. The first step to improve this situation is to develop techniques for the measurement of such issues. To address this, the project team is developing a measurement plane, or mPlane, to function alongside the Internet’s data and control planes.
