SUMMARY
The DMS2 project aims to create a strategic and practical framework to deal with data management challenges for current and future on-demand software providers in the cloud. This project is driven by a common need of industry partners to realize decentralized data management in cloud-based applications, both in a federated, inter-enterprise setting between tenant and provider, as well as in a distributed, intra-enterprise setting between different services within the organization.

SOLUTIONS
- Designing a reference model for requirements engineering and architectural trade-off analysis, specific for data management and migration in on-demand software solutions
- Developing middleware for data management, supporting interoperability, data protection measures, tactics and solutions for federated data storage and data processing.
- Enhancing support for heterogeneity and enabling interoperability for all data types, including both structured and unstructured data
- Establishing an appropriate set of abstractions to deal with storage, allocation, aggregation, data access, as well as advanced decentralized data analysis, for improved data management
- Researching data protection solutions that are applicable in near-term and that can offer acceptable performance overhead for data analysis.
