SUMMARY

CTVR is Ireland’s national telecommunications research centre. It is headquartered in Trinity College Dublin and works in partnership with six academic institutions in Ireland (NUIM, UL, UCC, Tyndall, DIT and DCU) and collaborates with over 60 companies. The centre engages in leading-edge research, postgraduate education, technology transfer, commercialisation and outreach and is involved in European wide projects as well as international collaborations.

The centre’s research focus is on developing dynamic wireless and optical networks which can react and adapt to changing situations and functional demands. Research is conducted both at the architectural and infrastructure level as well as on the underlying technologies that will enable the networks of the future.

SOLUTIONS

  • Designing evolvable networks
  • Building flexibility and adaptability into the network using such technologies as tunable and adaptive photonics devices and reconfigurable radios
  • Allowing networks to be self-planning and self-organising and able to dynamically reallocate resources to services and systems
  • Developing sustainable networks with a persistent awareness of resource constraints such as manpower, energy, space, bandwidth, processing capabilities, storage, etc.
  • Ensuring that networks can support many different models of ownership
