SUMMARY
The exponential growth of Smart phones, cloud services, the Internet of Things, and the global coordination of industry via databases entails that the production of digital information in society is ever more rapidly growing. With the proper analytic tools, these new and expanding data streams can be tapped for valuable knowledge.
In the emerging field of Big Data Analytics, large quantities of heterogeneous data are extracted, collated, stored and analysed to uncover hidden patterns and unknown correlations. This information can improve critical processes in society as well as provide competitive advantages to companies. The Big Data Analytics research project aims to craft a new national research agenda in conjunction with participants from industry, the research community, and the public sector.

- Examining industry needs, competences and possibilities in a technology domain that will have a large impact on Swedish competitiveness
- Exploring competences in all areas related to Big Data Analytics from data collection and storage, computational frameworks, and advanced data analysis, to service platforms and business development
- Analysing new data streams to optimise societal processes
- Designing a Big Data Analytics framework where actors can exchange data from different sources without violating the privacy of others or revealing business critical information
- Creating a Swedish ecosystem of Big Data stakeholders, laying the foundations for future cooperation
