Coordinating European Future Internet Research

I2Web

_____________________________________________________________________

SUMMARY

I2Web is a research project that aims to enable an accessible Future Internet for people with special needs. From a socio-economic standpoint, accessibility and usability issues are becoming critical issues due to the worldwide trend of demographic change. For instance, according to the UN 2006 Revision of World Population Prospects, a third of the total EU population will be above 60 in 2025. When we add to this figure the percentage of the population afflicted with a disability, then this project is addressing the needs of more than 40% of the population.

KEY OUTPUTS/RESULTS

  • Developing user, device and generic application models that allow adaptive and accessible interfaces into modern mobile and web 2.0 applications.
  • Designing a set of applications and extensions of integrated development environments, which will provide to users, developers, managers and commissioners information on accessibility and usability issues of their applications (this information will be integrated into their standard development workflow and will be implemented via Service Oriented Architecture components).
  • Testing, validating and demonstrating the developed frameworks and tools in different industrial software development environments and applications in the areas of ebanking, e-government and multimedia development environments.
