SUMMARY
Access to the Future Internet will be dominated by wireless devices. Resultant increases in traffic will challenge the sustainability of mobile networks. The EARTH project brings together a consortium of partners from industry and academia to address this challenge.
The overall goal of the project is to derive solutions that, when combined in an Integrated Solution, will decrease the energy consumption of wireless devices by 50 % without degrading quality of service. These solutions will be implemented at every level of production, from installing energy efficient components in the radio base stations to providing solutions on the radio network level. The EARTH project will complement its theoretical studies with trustworthy proof-of-concepts for the individual solutions as well as for the overall integrated solution.

SOLUTIONS
- Analysing, for the first time, the impact of the Future Internet on sustainability and the energy demands of the mobile communications infrastructure.
- Devising and Integrated Solution which avoids an increase of CO2e emissions and energy demands whilst expanding the mobile infrastructure to satisfy the future traffic demands.
- Integrating hardware, deployment and management solutions efficiently into an Integrated Solution that allows decreasing energy consumption by more than 50 %.
- Implementing key constituents of its solutions in hardware and software prototypes, illustrating the feasibility of and proving validity for the developed solutions
