Projects & Initiatives

_________

Abstracting Domain-Specific Information Retrieval

ADmIRE seeks to develop domain-specific Information Retrieval methodologies.

_________

ACE 3

The goal of the ACE 3 (Advancing the Customer Experience) project is to make Quality of Experience (QoE) measurable by integrating technical network parameters with user-centric quality indicators. Every technical service improvement should also ultimately result in an improvement of customer quality perception and satisfaction.

_________

ATREUS

The ATREUS research project investigates the potential of the latest, leading edge web technologies for ubiquitous computing applications with a special focus on the interaction of mobile devices and public electronic displays, screens, and interfaces.

_________

AT:net Austrian Electronic Network

The Austrian Electronic Network aims to foster the development qualitative and innovative broadband-based applications and services.

_________

Conceptional Development of an image recognition engine for outdoor 3D objects on smartphones

The goal of this project is to create a technology platform which can be used to track and to recognize three-dimensional structures in open space with the use of devices such smartphones or tablets. The platform will use existing smartphone sensor and photographic technology to combine visual cues and sensor data.

_________

EDGE

he goal of the EDGE project is to increase the integration of wind energy into the power grid. This goal will be achieved through improved management of dynamic elements (such as production units, storages and loads) connected to the power grid.

_________

Energy & IT

Energy & IT is a research group at the Institute of Computer Technology at the University of Technology Vienna. The group’s research is focused in two domains: power engineering and information technology (IT); and on forging synergies through global collaboration in both areas.

_________

Future Communication Group

Future Communication is a research group of the Faculty of Computer Science at the university of Wien. It focuses its research on the design, the operation, and the engineering of future communication networks.

_________

GBAN

The GBAN project is engaged in a number of activates relating to DSL technology, ranging from the development of new methods for improving the stability and performance of already deployed digital subscriber line (DSL) systems, to the development and deployment of the next generation DSL technology “G.fast”.

_________

Institute for Pervasive Computing

The Institute for Pervasive Computing seeks to conduct research into and develop applications for network embedded systems.

_________

Material Reconstruction and High Quality, Angle-Dependent Real-Time Visualization on Mobile Devices

This project aims to create a visual platform for mobile devices which can, through BRDF techniques, capture and reconstruct the materials, geometry, and lighting of the real scene.

_________

MobiGuide

In this project, MobiGuide seeks to develop a patient guidance system that integrates hospital and monitoring data into a Personal Health Record (PHR) accessible by both patients and care providers and also provides personalised, secure clinical guidance outside clinical environments.

_________

Mobile Hybrid Tracking in Large and Changing Interior Spaces

The goal of this project is to develop a hybrid indoor tracking system for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. The system will be specifically designed for complex interior spaces – like airports, hospitals and shopping malls – whose appearance and layout may change due to seasonal variation, new constructions, refurbishments, renovations etc.

_________

NGVB

The Next-Generation Video Browsing project aims to translate results from previous research on video browsing and 3D search interfaces to the expanding domain of modern mobile devices and answer several new research questions.

_________

MUCKE

MUCKE seeks to address the rapid proliferation of multimedia social data under the rubric of Web 3.0 by designing new and reliable knowledge extraction models which will be specifically calibrated for multilingual and multimodal data shared on social networks.

_________

Preventing Hubness in Music Information Retrieval

The main goal of this project is to conduct an in-depth study of the hubness problem in the context of Music Information Retrieval with the aim of finding ways to avoid or at least attenuate its adverse effects.

_________

RiSE: Rigorous System Engineering

RiSE (Rigorous systems engineering) seeks to move beyond classical model checking and a-posteriori verification – both in the use of model checkers and in the development and deployment of additional paradigms – to develop computer systems infrastructure for the future internet.
